OPTICAL SECURITY RESEARCH

An inherent advantage of OCDMA systems is data confidentiality, because messages are optical encoded at the transmitter, and can be recovered only by an authorized user, who knows the optical codes. Block-ciphering (known also M-ary OCDMA) is a secure encoding method that transforms different sequences of bits into different OCs, with two levels of confidentiality: physical-layer security, because an eavesdropper should be able to correctly detect the optical code, and computational security, since he or she does not know which sequence of bits corresponds to a given OC, and the number of possible combinations equates M!
